Apocalypse Beer and Food Pairings

Apocalypse Beer and Food Pairings

During this time of great uncertainty, it’s more important than ever to continue supporting the restaurants in our community that normally provide a place to celebrate with loved ones.

Lots of restaurants around town are offering to-go options with limited hours, perfect for pairing with that 6-pack in your fridge and a binge session of your favorite show. Here are some of our favorites:

For lighter fare, grab a flatbread ($13) at Public House of Yakima paired with a growler of easy-drinking Blue Falcon Pale Ale (5.0%), a hoppy spring crusher brewed with Yakima’s first responders which supports the Wounded Warriors’ Family Support Fund. Public House is open from 12-7pm daily.

It’s not quite asparagus season, but Los Hernandez Authentic Tamales has other amazing tamales year-round. We recommend pairing Field 41 Pale Ale with the sweet and hearty chicken tamales and Topcutter IPA with the more intense flavors of the pork. Open most days from 11am-6pm at both their Union Gap and West Valley locations. Their lunch special ($6.75) from 11am-2pm includes 2 tamales with rice and beans and is available for dinner too.

Looking for something to pair with the intense hop character of Bottomcutter Imperial IPA? Try the pork belly steamed buns ($4.50), the blackened salmon ($17), or the beef and charred scallion ($20) from E.Z. Tiger. All bring some sweetness to the table to balance that hop bite. Takeout and delivery from 11:30am-7pm.

Crafted Yakima’s menu changes daily with dinners on Thursday through Sunday, but whenever they’re offering seafood, we’re pairing it with Hazy L IPA. Options with mozzarella, steak, or sweet roasted vegetables (like carrots and beets) are refreshing with a cold can of Topcutter IPA. Save yourself a trip to the grocery store – they’ve got to-go cans available.

Looking to feed the family after a chaotic day working from home with your kids? These restaurants are offering a free kid’s meal with an adult entrée:

You’re already messy from entertaining the kids all day, so add some stains to your shirt with a Greek lamb burger ($18), some fried chicken ($28), or an order of meatloaf ($24) from Provisions’ Restaurant & Market. All those options pair well with Field 41 Pale Ale, Hazy L IPA, or Topcutter IPA, which are stocked and available in the market daily. Or, feel free to add any of your favorite canned Bale Breaker beers to your order - just order online through our website for pickup at Provisions on their next business day. Add on other staples (like milk, eggs, rice, or toilet paper) to your food order and save yourself a trip to the store. Open from 12-6pm on Monday through Friday.

Norm’s of Yakima has Leota Mae IPA (6.2%) on tap: take home a growler with their deluxe grilled cheese ($12) or classic Rueben ($15), which is made with Bale Breaker-braised corned beef. More of a Topcutter IPA or Hazy L IPA fan? Pair your to-go TC and HL cans with either the pulled pork sammies ($16) or any of the burgers ($14-17) - the crispness of this beer really balances the richness of the meat. Open 11am-9pm Tuesday through Thursday and 11am-midnight Friday & Saturday.
